![]() ![]() Founded by the first George Lowe in 1770 at "The Cross," it has occupied the premises in Bridge Street Row, Chester since 1804, for more than 200 years. The Chester store of jewellers "Lowe & Sons" still exists today. Not surprisingly, George Senior ran a branch of Lowe & Sons in Barmouth and was a regular visitor to the Chester store, then owned by his uncle. grew up in Cheshire, England, and the Lowe family were silversmiths, goldsmiths, jewellers and watchmakers with shops in Chester and Liverpool, England, as well as Llandudno, Wales. His older brother, George died at the age of 17 on December 27th, 1895 from drowning in a boating accident. His father had ambitions for him to be apprenticed to a successful Liverpool businessman, but Harold Lowe was determined to go to sea. Harold Lowe was born in Llanrhos, Caernarvonshire, Wales on 21 November 1882, the fourth of eight children, born to George and Harriet Lowe.
